The public institution, the Specialized Library ”Behram-beg” in Tuzla, is dedicated to education, informing and satisfying citizens’ need for culture and science, particularly in the fields of islamic studies, cultural tradition of people in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and other scientific disciplines. The library was founded on 3rd of June 1993 when it started working within the Majlis of the Islamic Community in Tuzla. After a while, the library became an independent institution, and since 2005 it has been located in the new building, at the address Solni trg 6. The library in Tuzla is one of the two libraries that work under the patronage of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina, alongside the famous Gazi Husrev-bey's Library in Sarajevo, and it is one of the two public libraries in the city (the other one is the National and University Library „Derviš Sušić“).  It was founded by the Council of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Assembly of Tuzla Canton. This library is also one of the six institutions of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina that works on the territory of the Mufti unit of Tuzla.

The thing that distinguishes the public institution, the Specialized Library ”Behram-beg” in Tuzla, from the other libraries in the city is a large number of books written in oriental languages – Ottoman, Turkish, Arabic and Persian. Among them, there are about 143 manuscripts of special value, some of which are over 350 years old, such as Sheikh Sadi Shirazi's Gulistan which was transcribed in 1078/1668, or even 500 years old, such as Imam Ibn al-Bazzaza's Al-Fatawa al-Bazzaziyya which was transcribed in 931/1524.

Apart from the collection of books in oriental languages, the library has the collection in Bosnian, the children's collection, and it occassionally publishes books as well. Currently, there are over 29,500 books in the library. There is also a certain number of books in English, German, French and Turkish language. It should be noted that we have a large number of newspapers, magazines and folios. A big part of periodicals is also in the mentioned languages. In the future, the library will continue its mission – to serve all those interested in our cultural past and to maintain the dialogue between people in Bosnia and Herzegovina and beyond.
